The Alaska Prison System
The Alaska Dept.of Corrections provides all statewide corrections services.The Department operates 13 facilities, some housing both detainees and sentenced prisoners, with a staff of approximately 1,300. The DOC also contracts with a private correctional facility. In 2009, there were 5,285 inmates in the system, including 2,508 sentenced offenders.
The Community Corrections System in Alaska
The Alaska DOC supervised 6.747 adult probationers and 1,939 parolees in 2009.
