The Nevada Jail System
Nevada has 17 counties and 24 jail facilities. The state's jail population in 2005 was 7,110 inmates. The are no jail standards or inspection programs in the state.
The Nevada Prison System
The Dept. of Corrections, governed by the Board of Prisons, managed 12,737 inmates on June 30, 2011. The agency operates 9 institutions, 9 camps, a transition housing center, and a restitution center. The DOC has approximately 2,235 employees. The 2009-2011 biennium budget for the department was $609.8 million.
The Community Corrections System
The Div. of Parole & Probation, Dept. of Public Safety, supervised 12,300 probationers and 3,924 parolees in 2009. The Division has 4 regional and 10 satellite offices.
