The Connecticut Prison System

Connecticut Dept. of Correction operates a combined jail/prison system which housed approximately 17,500 inmates in May of 2011 (13,671 were sentenced offenders). There are 18 facilities in the system, 2 of which are closed due to recent drops in inmate numbers. The agency budget in 2010 was $660 million, with a staff of approximately 7,000.

The Community Corrections System

The Office of Adult Probation (administered by the state's Chief Court Administrator) supervised 56,336 probationers through 16 field offices in 2009. Staff of the Board of Parole supervised 2,873 parolees.
