The New Jersey Jail System

There are 24 jail facilities in 21 counties across New Jersey. The state jail population was 17,621 inmates in 2005, so just imagine where it's at now. The NJ Dept. of Corrections conducts jail inspections for standards and compliance.

The New Jersey Prison System

The Dept. of Corrections managed 25,017 inmates in 13 facilities at the end of 2010. The agency's 2010 budget was $1.189 billion ($874.1 million for prison operations) with approximately 8,000 staff.

The Community Corrections System

The Administrative Office of the Courts supervised 124,176 probationers at yearend 2009. The Dept. of Corrections' Division of Parole supervised 15,356 parolees.
