The New Mexico Jail System

There are 42 jail facilities in the state's 33 counties and tribal jurisdictions across New Mexico. The New Mexico jail population in 2005 was 8,514 inmates. There are no jail standards or inspection programs in the state.

The NM Prison System

The NM Corrections Department managed 6,590 inmates in 6 state facilities and 4 private prisons on July 22, 2011. The agency's budget in FY 2009 was $320.5 million, with more than 2,500 employees.

The Community Corrections System

The Corrections Dept.'s Probation & Parole Division supervised 20,086 probationers and 3,157 parolees at the end of 2009.
