The Rhode Island Jail System

A single Rhode Island jail is operated by the state DOC for all pre-trial offenders. The facility, called Intake Service Center, has a capacity of 1,148.

The Prison System

The Dept. of Corrections is a unified system, there are no county jails. The DOC operates 5 prisons for men in Rhode Island, 2 facilities for women, and a jail. There were 3,161 inmates in the Rhode Island state system and year end 2010, with 1403 employees. The agency's FY 2010 budget was $173.9 million.

The Community Corrections System

The Probation & Parole unit of the Dept. of Corrections supervised 25,924 probationers and 585 parolees at yearend 2009 in Rhode Island.
