The Utah Jail System

Utah has 29 counties and 27 jail facilities. The state jail population was 6,739 inmates in 2005. A jail inspection and voluntary standards compliance program is operated by the UT Sheriffs' Assoc.

The Utah Prison System

The Dept. of Corrections managed 6,817 inmates inmates in 2010. The agency operates one prison complex with 5 facilities and a second complex with 8 facilities. The agency also operates juvenile facilities. The department budget for FY 2012 is $325.5 million with 3,249 employees.

The Community Corrections System in Utah

At the end of 2009, the Dept. of Corrections' Div. of Adult Probation & Parole supervised 11,528 probationers and 3,204 parolees using 8 regional offices.
